President, Forestry Research Institute
Dr. Jae Wook Park
Dr. Hen-Biau King, Chair of East Asia-Pacific Regional LTER Committee,
Distinguished guests, Participants, Ladies and Gentlemen,
I would like to express our great pleasure in being invited to host the workshop of East Asia-Pacific Regional Long-term Ecological Research and Biodiversity Conservation. On behalf of Korean Forestry Research Institute, I extend my deepest thanks to all of you who were able to participate in this workshop.
It has already stimulated ecological research in my country in many ways. Our government authorities have a fresh look at the condition of our forests and how they might be better managed. We are now working much more closely together to better promote public and political understanding of the value of our forest ecosystem.
I know this workshop will contribute in the area of ecological research of east Asia-Pacific region and will share information about the problems of long-term ecological research with each other. In this context, your presentations will provide valuable insight for long-term ecological research in the world.
Again, thank you very much for participating in the IUFRO workshop of East Asia-Pacific Region Long-term Ecological Research and it is also appreciate to thank Dr. Eun Shik Kim and Dr. Jeong Soo Oh who have been involved in organizing this significant event.
I wish you a very successful workshop. I believe the IUFRO has made a significant difference to the future of forest resources, and we are fully committed to ensuring that it makes an even greater commitment during the next decades.
Thank you very much!
